This cantata was published in Venice in 1681. It was apparently sung throughout the late seventeenth and the eighteenth century by members of the Venetian Jewish confraternity, Shomerim LaBoker, (The Watchmen of the Dawn). This was "occasional music," to be performed during the pre-dawn vigil on Hoshana Rabba (the sixth day Sukkot). The Christian composer, Carlo Grossi, set the Hebrew text with appropriately joyous music, even if ther are occasional misstressed words.
